Our hearts turn toward the Southeast USA

The southeastern region of the USA has been hammered by two major hurricanes in the past month. As I write this, we are waiting to hear news of our families and friends in Florida. Most of them, besides our niece and her family who live in the Orlando area, live in either the northeast or southeast of the state. Our hearts and fervent prayers aren’t far from them. Join us in prayer for all those whose lives have been disrupted by these storms. If you want to give towards relief efforts, Convoy of Hope and Joyce Meyer Ministries are amazing organizations that get help to where it is needed.

We have worked with both of these organizations in times past and can confidently say that they are faithful to use their funds wisely.
At the same time, when we are at our limit financially, another powerful tool we have at our disposal during these times is prayer. No, we don’t view prayer as a catchphrase to escape responsibility. Prayer is powerful and it works. We know that prayer moves mountains if we dare to couple it with our faith. Join us in the coming weeks as we continue to pray for those who have experienced loss during these storms.

James 5:16 NKJV “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Spotlight: Ishura Salha, student at New Hope Academy

When our Hope Center feeding site in Gatumba, Burundi began in 2021, Salha (now 5 years old) and her brothers were registered and began receiving meals. When they arrived, they were destitute, without proper food or education. Salha’s father abandoned the family shortly after she was born. There is no news of his whereabouts. The family now lives in a poorly constructed tent. A Muslim woman of some means offered to help them with food and school only if they converted to Islam. She has paid for Salha’s brothers to go to school but not for Salha. We have enrolled Salha now at New Hope Academy. She loves her classes and classmates. Salha’s mother has asked we pray for her to be able to leave the care of the Muslim woman who has supported them.

Travels: Kenya, Burundi and USA

We will be traveling to Burundi via Kenya on October 18 and returning on 28 October. The weekend of October 20, Jamie will be ministering at Nairobi Lighthouse Church. We’re so looking forward to connecting with our friends and leaders of the church Pastors Don and Amy Matheny.
On Monday the 21 of October, we will fly from Nairobi to Bujumbura to spend a week working at the church, Hope Center, New Hope Academy, and our upcoming Anna’s House.

Stories like this one are not uncommon in these situations of intense poverty. Please join us in prayer for Salha and her family.

Just a few weeks, after our return from Burundi (December 6), we will get on yet another plane and head to the USA for a short month-long trip. We’re working on our itinerary for this trip and have tentatively scheduled a few churches. Pray that our calendar fills with those contacts that God has meant for us to connect with.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and partnership.
